The Sustainabuilds project, also known as the tails of sustainabuilds, is a roleplaying board game targeted towards Kenyan teenagers and young adults. We started with rapid prototyping using lego blocks during the project's development and created a play manual. We deliberately chose a board game for the project's reachability. It saves on deployment costs which are critical in developing countries and classrooms. I created a digital clone of the board game in Unity for work-from-home testing and developing purposes during the 2020 covid-19 lockdown.
The goal of this board game is to teach the target audience about future planning and agriculture. The game is meant to be played in the classroom, where its full potential as a learning tool is reached. The boardgame game will be used alongside lectures teaching about climate change and its effect on their environment.
Sustainabuilds was built for CGIAR, a leading global research partnership in food security, and the subsidiary ILRI, the International Livestock Research Institution.
Since September 2020, I've moved on from the Sustainabuilds project to pursue other learning goals. During my time on the project, I've been responsible for the user interaction, data analysis, and eventually the digital prototype to test during corona times.
